This page provides more detailed information on submitting a Large Generator Interconnection Request. A Large Generator is a generator, or an aggregation of generators, that has a total generating nameplate capacity > 20 MW. The interconnection of Large Generators to the Federal Columbia River Transmission System (FCRTS) is governed by Attachment L to BPA's Open Access Transmission Tariff and the Large Generator Interconnection Business Practice.

Transition to a Cluster Study

As of June 30, 2024, BPA has changed the Large Generator Interconnection process from a serial process to a cluster study process. Requests that were in the queue requiring study are now being studied in the Transition Cluster Study.

Durable Cluster Study

After the Transition Cluster Study is complete BPA will begin the Durable Cluster Study. New Large Generator Interconnection Requests must be studied in the Durable Cluster Study unless they are Surplus, Repower, or Replacement requests.

Surplus, Repower, or Replacement

Requests for Surplus, Repower, or Replacement Interconnection Service will be studied individually separately from the rest of the Interconnection Queue.

Energy Resource Interconnection Service (ERIS)/ Network Resource Interconnection Service (NRIS)

Large Generator Interconnection Customers that have partnered or plan to partner with one of BPA’s Network Integration Transmission Service Customers may be eligible to be studied for Network Resource Interconnection Service. If so, the NITS Customer partner’s name must be included in the Interconnection Request form. Any Large Generator Interconnection Request that is not being studied for Network Resource Interconnection Service will be studied for Energy Resource Interconnection Service.
